Our congregation is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a denomination of over 11,000 congregations and 5-million people across the country.
We began in 1880 as a Sunday school ministry out of the downtown area. In 1886 we were officially organized as a congregation and located in its first building on Sixth Avenue. In 1931 the congregation moved to its current building on Second Avenue, across the street from the High School.
We did experience a decrease in size of the congregation over the past couple of decades and now we are on a growing trend as we seek to reach out to the community around us. As we grow in numbers, our membership is a wide variety of ages, economic levels, and previous religious experiences. |
